before...&lt;br /&gt;this book has in- strap sewing, and the straps are recessed into the covers, as is the clasp. this took a bit of planning, but i'm really happy with the result. the marbled paper adelaide... but no joy...&lt;br /&gt;this style of binding is very old, and originally done as an account book, bound with blank pages. it opens very flat, allowing the accountant to write entries across the open pages.&lt;br /&gt; for this reason, they also make good sketchbooks.&lt;br /&gt;there is even one in a painting by hans holbein the younger, in his 1532 painting of 'georg gisze'. i seperate pieces: the 2 boards, and the spine. great for using smaller bits of leather, or using contrasting colors. this one has thin leather strips that were onlaid into blind tooled lines. the edges turning them into a tangible,  physical  object...&lt;br /&gt;paper, glue, thread leather etc, using techniques that, for the most part have remained unchanged for several hundred years.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;then, at the other end of the spectrum, the digital age...so here i am, experimenting with sharing an old ( and for me , thoroughly rewarding ).....craft / profession / metier... call
